Be Prepared For Hot Weather!

Well folks we've been soooooo lucky the big heat hadn't hit yet but it looks like we're going to get it this weekend. We've already seen and heard from lots of folks with plants that are starting to suffer due to incorrect watering, etc. Because of an unusually mild June watering wasn't really much of an issue, but it is now. If you haven't adjusted your water schedules for summer- do it now!!! And even more so when temps go to around 110 or so even normal summer watering schedules don't apply! You need to monitor your plants daily when we get these extreme temps and water additionally if needed. One of the best things you can do is to mulch. Mulching is like adding insulation to your plants. Be sure also that trunks of newly planted trees are protected with wrap or tree paint to prevent sunburning. I also just walked and inspected a property that nearly all the trees were damaged from line trimmers. Please use arbor guards or kill the grass around your trees and mulch them! Remember even with these hot temps it is still ok to fertilize warm weather plants, and things like bougainvillea, lantana, hibiscus and the like can still be planted now along with of course arid adapted plants like texas sage, bird of paradise, etc. Good Growing!!
